The MCA was officially founded in 1935 under the visionary leadership of Servant of God Archbishop Geevarghese Mar Ivanios, the founder of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church.
Its formation came shortly after the reunion movement of 1930, when a group from the Malankara Church entered into communion with the Catholic Church.
The need arose for an organized body of lay faithful to support the Church’s mission and strengthen unity among members.
